Is your anger unhealthy?

A person might increase his or her risk of a heart attack eight-fold by getting angry, The Wall Street Journal reported. The study itself, published in the European Heart Journal: Acute Cardiovascular Care, expanded on the consequences of short and long-term health issues related to anger. A fit not only sends someone's blood pressure through the roof, but it has long-lasting effects that a person might not experience until later on.

Interrupts daily function

Sleep troubles, emotional overeating and insulin resistance are all consequences of long-term anger problems. Each of these problems can deteriorate health, which is why it is vital for a person to practice anger management to avoid flying off the handle - even once in a while.

"Anger is bad for just about everything we have going on physically," Redford Williams, director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke University Medical Center said via WSJ.

Although this research is a breakthrough, healthcare professionals have emphasized for years how stress and poor health go hand-in-hand. According to the American Psychological Association, chronic stress interferes with a person's ability to lead a normal life. A person may feel rundown, cranky and have trouble focusing without any good reason.

However, these are only the emotional effects. Over time this stress takes a toll on a person's physical shape. Someone who might otherwise be healthy may put on weight because stress causes overeating. Stress pushes an individual to change his or her habits as a means to seek comfort.

"Stress is a catalyst that may make someone start smoking or eating poorly."

Why supplements help

It is up to the individual to lower his or her levels of stress to assert control over leading a healthy life. A person who has been having a tough time maintaining a well-balanced diet may benefit from supplements, such as vitamins A, B, C, D and omega-3.

Working to relieve stress and minimize anger outbursts can be a long road, which is why supplements are a great idea. Integrating them into daily meals can be an efficient and convenient stepping stone to a better diet.

It is important to recognize how crucial a role stress and anger management play in health. Achieving lower levels of stress means leading a happier and healthier life.
